How Social Bookmarking Can Benefit You

Posted By Diane Sontag on May 24, 2009 @ 3:13 am
by Diane Sontag

Social Bookmarking is all the rage these days and there are a couple of reasons for that. One is inherent in the name…social. We are social creatures, and as our social interactions increasingly include technology-based interactions, using social bookmarking is a natural outgrowth of that phenomenon.

As we increasingly pass over paper and pen for text messages, we are also want to share our favorite websites with our friends and family. Social bookmarking sites allow us to do this efficiently and effortlessly.

The second reason social bookmarking sites are becoming so popular is because of an increase of internet marketing. Internet marketers also use social bookmarking to promote products and increase brand awareness.

Any internet marketer who seeks to be profitable will soon see the need for a larger volume of social bookmarking than others. And so it is only natural that internet marketers are turning to automation to increase profits. There are several options for automated social bookmarking software. By far the best is Bookmarking Demon.

Bookmarking Demon allows anyone to automate their account creation and bookmarking at three types of social bookmarking sites: scuttle, scuttle plus, and pligg. Bookmarking Demon also allows the pinging of accounts to increase rankings, proxy connections and allows you to change browser configuration. Bookmarking Demon also allows you to add RSS feeds to your bookmarking, so internet marketers can contribute useful links in additon to their own site promotion.

Because bookmarking sites come and go very quickly, Bookmarking Demon is like a hungry lion that needs to be fed new bookmarking sites on a regular basis if you are to maximize your efforts. Fortunately it is an easy process to add the new sites since it is one of the new features of the latest version of Bookmarking Demon.

Just how to find new social bookmarking sites to add to your Bookmarking Demon? The only way is to search for them with one of the major search engines. That’s the easy part. The next step is a time consuming one, the verifying of each search result to be sure it is actually a site that is live, has a registration page and meets the criteria of Bookmarking Demon. It can take hours to find a short list of usable sites. One solution to that problem is to buy tested lists of bookmarking sites, such as those offered by Bookmarking Buddy. A good solution to that problem is to buy tested lists of bookmarking sites.

Utilizing Online Social Networking in Education

Posted By Bobbie McKee on April 30, 2009 @ 4:27 am

There is still an ongoing debate on the direct benefits of making the use of social networking in education. Unfortunately for these online social networking sites, or SNS, their early reputation has long preceded their potentials. Facebook, Friendster and MySpace are just some examples of such sites which have created a stigma around themselves that technology per se does not deserve.

But with the lines blurring, it is interesting to know that a change is taking place, and it relates to what could be the productive role of online social networking in the lives of students.

Issue of safety and influence

Majority of the contents of online SNS are user generated. They are open to anyone who wishes to become a member. Because some users often post detailed and specific personal details (including addresses and phone numbers), compromising and unsuitable pictures, statements or other information, SNS are considered as a playground for online predators.

Students are getting in trouble with their school administrators for posting self incriminating and unacceptable pictures or information, which violate imposed school policies or code of conduct. School administrators, however, do not monitor the activities of their students in online social networking activities; but if their students’ online accounts that violate school policies are reported to them or are brought to their attention, then they may investigate the matter further.

Collaboration rather than conflict

The challenge in utilizing the potentials of SNS in the lives of students lies in how to integrate such sites with academic practice. Initially, as expected, academic institutions had refused to accept the influence of social networking activities in the lives of their students. However, it is without a doubt that despite of the downsides, the internet is a powerful educational tool – a virtual school grounds where students can meet and chat, and bring learning to them without having to leave their homes.

Recently, the same school institutions had to see these SNS with a fresh eye. This technological socialization among students may just be a potentially effective partner in the education system. There should be an alliance, rather than a collision, between the online activities of students and academic goals. The challenge here is how to harness the promise of SNS and how to integrate it effectively with the traditional academic methods.

Of course it is not generally possible to directly incorporate SNS directly into the classrooms; such are tools primarily for socializing. But these tools have grown to a level so potentially useful among students that educators should not ignore its value. With optimism, this goal may be realized through the following:

* Paying attention and looking into social networking sites – School administrators must not express disproval of networking activities utterly without really understanding how it works. Exploring these sites will reveal what makes it popular among their students.

* Employing the educational worth of social networking activities – Educators may deliberately consider ways of extending classroom activities onto the internet. Online communities work by providing ways through which users interact. Deliberately thinking of projects and assignments to be executed by the students through SNS may make the most out of it.

Effectively diverting the influence of SNS to a more positive side will strengthen role of online technology to the students. The role of social networking in education may just be an integral part of the learning process of the students, and not merely a distraction.

Chiropractic Internet Marketing Proven to Work

Posted By Matthew Loop DC on March 6, 2009 @ 5:57 pm

Are you one of the many chiropractors who thought that your expensive and classy website would automatically draw countless new patients through your door? Did a practice management group promise you that this would be the case, but they werent right? Well, the good news is that youre not alone, because this is the trap that most chiropractors fall into. What you need to know is that it isnt the website thats effective but the traffic to the website.

Remember that old question regarding if a tree falls in the forest with no one around, then is there any sound actually made? Well, if an expensive chiropractic marketing website is on the internet and theres no traffic to it, then do you really have a website; or just a huge bill each month? If you cant use cutting-edge methods to push traffic to your website, youre wasting a lot of money and not seeing the new patients that you need to see to prosper. The methods for doing this arent taught in schools, and your expensive management group doesnt know about them either. The kind of traffic Im talking about is totally possible; seeing as I learned how to earn a five figure monthly income by generating this traffic online.

There are a number of things you can do to create traffic and the simplest and most profound is article writing. Gain credibility as an author on Yahoo and Google, and watch as the popularity of your practice soars. You can even start small, with one article a week written by yourself or a ghostwriter. The snowball effect of writing articles online is phenomenal.

The next major step is to get a blog running about your practice, and contribute to the blog a few times each week. A blog is amazing, because you can contribute things to it like videos, PR announcements, podcasts and more. Think of your blog as your home base where potential patients in your community can learn about you personally and your business practices. Blogs have wonderful indexing power in search engines. I recommend hosts like WordPress and LiveJournal.

Now what youre going to want to do is consistently contribute to forums like Yahoo Answers, taking the posture of an expert and problem solver. When people read your answers to popular posts, theyre going to find you at your website to learn more. That means that as little as 15 minutes a day can drive thousands of people to your website.

Now, youre going to want to network and meet people online, and the sure-fire method of accomplishing that is through social media sharing sites like LinkedIn, Friendster, Facebook, and the like. These amazing Web 2.0 sites are taking over the internet, and when you request friends from you community on these sites, theyre going to check your website to see who you are and what youre about.

Fifth is pay per click ( or PPC) advertising. Google, MSN, Yahoo, and other networks offer this targeted service as a way to get instant traffic to your chiropractic website. Without question, it’s an automatic method that will get you whatever amount of traffic you can afford. The benefit is that the traffic is literally “on-demand.” Forget about waiting for search engine optimization (SEO) tasks to finally start. One of the cons is that you lose your butt if you are not careful and seasoned. Make sure you set a spending limit every day so you don’t go broke.

When you consider that the most powerful marketing tactics use personalization and trust, youll see why video marketing online is the most amazing method for chiropractors looking to draw new patients. I single-handedly transformed my practice using video marketing, and you can too by targeting your community and putting your personal spin on your marketing. Video marketing broke all kinds of records in 2008, and its already shown in 2009 that its growth and power simply wont stop. Even while you sleep, people are watching your video and being driven to your website.

These are your tools in the chiropractic internet marketing tool belt, and they have the potential to totally transform the life of your practice. Youll be freeing up so much more time because youre working smart instead of hard. An expensive chiropractic website can be a waste of money without traffic being driven to it. New patients are the soul of your practice, and when the blood isnt flowing, your practice dies. Internet marketing is the way to get the blood pumping consistently.

Effective Marketing In A Rough Economy

Posted By Michael Fleischner on March 3, 2009 @ 6:54 am

Marketing online takes a good deal of experience. This is especially true as marketing budgets become smaller and are asked to do more. Internet marketing requires skillful management of multiple audiences, campaigns, and more. By using the proper data analysis, and implementing some best practices, you can get more from your online marketing.

If you are an established business, chance are you already have a website or blog. In fact, you may also have tons of visitors coming to your website each and every day. The key is to leverage your visitors and build long term relationships that can pay dividends.

In the last few months, I have experimented with a number of methods to better leverage the traffic I receive to my website on a regular basis. Having to do more with a smaller marketing budget, implementing new methods for improving conversions is essential. The techniques I use are simple to implement and can begin working immediately.

Provide an informational giveaway. When visitors enter your website, provide some valuable information in exchange for a name and email. This capture of information is essential for marketing your products to web site visitors. Once they offer their information communicate with them on a regular basis.

Use an auto responder. Communicate with your website visitors on a regular basis. This is a great way to convert your browsers into customers. After users sign up for your free information or download, use the auto responder to send messages on a regular basis. Auto responders are very inexpensive and can provide a significant boost to sales.

Create a reason to come back. Another great technique is to change up your free offers on a weekly basis. This is easily done if you offer a course covering a new topic each week. Let users know that by coming back to the site, they can access new information, transcripts from a recent conference call, or access to expert information.

Finally, consider adding a newsletter sign up to your website. Again, use an auto responder once someone has registered to communicate with them frequently. Archive your newsletter articles so that individuals can view past editions by logging in. This helps to build your opt-in list while provide valuable information that others will seek out.

In a tough economy, you need to do what you can to get more from your website visitors. The only way to do this successfully is to first offer something of value. After you’ve made the first move, many browsers will be willing to share some information about themselves. Put your thinking cap on and consider new ways to attract website visitors. Once you have found something that works, stick with it.

As you add greater focus and attention on website traffic and conversions, you will find that your marketing budget does more with less. Make the most of what you have and watch your sales increase.

Build Your Dream Site

Posted By James Gilbert Pynn on February 25, 2009 @ 2:16 pm
by James Gilbert Pynn

It struck me, as I closed the pages to FIVE DAYS IN PARIS, to start a website dedicated to the works of Danielle Steel. Some of you will applaud me, most of you will jeer. I accept that. I am not perfect, but I am dedicated. Indeed, I defy any of the naysayers to read the 1977 classic, PASSION’S PROMISE and not be moved to tears. To have a heart is to know the Steel Lady. But I digress. The point here is that I had an excellent idea for a website and websites take a bit of doing.

Your first step is the deepest: you have to get hosted. Not like Mr. Roarke on Fantasy Island, but like getting an address. This means you need a catchy website name, like www.steelladyofletters.com. Now, this will effectively be your domain name. “A what?” you ask. Oh, my poor Tattoo, you will learn shortly how the fantasy of a website will become reality. Cut to commercial.

You see, a domain name now needs a host to essentially “carry” it. Think in terms of real estate. You have the plans to your dream home, now you need a piece of land to build on. That piece of land will then be your address. But in this case you will get to actually determine your address. Nifty, no? Yes. This is where a DNS provider makes an entrance like William Shatner.

A DNS provider registers your domain name and is responsible for making sure when people type in your URL address your site pops up. So, of course, it stands to reason that you would want to get hosted on a reputable, far-reaching provider. By far-reaching I mean one that has numerous geographical servers located throughout the nation. Worldwide would be even better. This ensures when people in France or Sri Lanka type in your website address, it shows up.

You should know, for the sake of landing a viable DNS provider, that most hosting services share servers with other hosting services. This smacks of fractional-reserve banking, you know, what your local bank does when it lends money based on possessing a fraction of the actual loan amount, but DNS servers are far more reliable than your local bank. If it’s still there these days. Anyway, my point is find a good host. And then hail Danielle Steel.

Home Business Is the Future of Internet

Posted By Dianne Logan on @ 12:07 pm

The current global recession had been putting lot of strain on all employed persons, particularly on lower and middle income people and working mothers. Retrenchments and layoffs had resulted in sharp drop in income levels in many families. Even those who are still employed find reduction in salaries due to the loss in company revenues. Hence, earning a livelihood, as well as making some extra money, had assumed importance now. In such a bleak scenario, home business offers a golden opportunity to make ends meet in several households. Here is a list of home business possibilities that you could consider.

1. Selling products on eBay 2. Affiliate marketing business 3. Direct sales business and promotional products business 4. Coaching and childrens tutoring business 5. Web designing and web hosting 6. General transcription, medical transcription, and legal transcription business 7. Virtual assistant business 8. Copy writing, blog writing, and ghost writing business 9. Software programming and computer support business 10. Making products from home, like soap, candle, embroidery, candy wrapping, gift basket supply, catering, party supply, etc. 11. Accounting and bookkeeping business 12. Mystery shopping 13. Home based secretarial business 14. Internet research business

eBay Marketing

One of the best home businesses with a bright future is eBay marketing. Thousands of products are available on eBay through fixed price selling and auction-type trading. It is quite easy to learn how to sell products in eBay. You should start with the products that you are completely familiar with, preferably the ones that you could push to your friends and relatives initially. You could use the message boards and networks of eBay, yahoo and MSN to create publicity to your products. You could also write blogs and reply to blogs related to your products.

Precautions in Products Selling Business

It is also important that the products you sell on eBay or on your own are completely perfect. If at all there is any deficiency in the product like a tear or a stain or a slight damage, be frank enough to reveal the same and reduce your price accordingly. People would appreciate your honesty and buy that product without hesitation, if they are convinced that they could use the same with that deficiency. This would also protect you against any serious damage claims later on.

If you had sent a good product and the buyer makes a defective claim, then you could ask that person either to send a photograph of the present condition or straightaway request an immediate return of the product. If they return the product, then send back the money immediately, even though you might lose money in shipment and packing costs. However, do not yield to false threatening and make payments under duress.

If you wish to sell your own products, you would require a good website and lot of connections. Starting on eBay selling would help you build up a marketing network, which you could use to sell your home made products. If you are patient and diligent, then you would definitely agree that home business is the future of Internet.

Flip Sites For $1

Posted By Filla Man on February 21, 2009 @ 4:07 am
by Filla Man

So many people use a wide array of avenues to make money online. There are ad campaigns like Adwords and other PPC campaigns, freelance web design and or programming, and so many others.

Buying and flipping websites is one widely used method, but many people think you have to buy expensive sites and flip them for a ton of money to get any real profit. That would require large investments that not everyone has available. This is not so. I will tell you how to flip sites with just a basic HTML knowledge and photo shop ability.

Look online for websites for sale. Find some simple sites that are super clean. Not a lot of images or graphics. Buy something in the range of $10 to $20.

Now I strongly recommend for this avenue and most other MMO strategies that you become at least half decent with photo editing software. People like flashy sites with custom logos and headers. This will be the part you spend most of your time on so you really want to get fast at it.

Now you have to market the site. Always use every possible opportunity to exploit the positive attributes of the site. If you have custom content, tell them. Bring out the unique logo and header.

Offer to sell the site for $1. That is a good deal to anyone. You offer that price based on them signing up for hosting with your affiliate code. So you get your profit from the commission paid by the hosting company.

Hostgator has a good affiliate program. Each new sign-up you bring them gets you $50. That is a quick way to double your investment.

Simple Website Tools

Posted By Juicy-Lie on September 16, 2008 @ 8:51 am

Most people think that I create wonderful websites and web designs all by hand.  Sure, I could code everything from scratch, and it would work, but quite frankly, it would just take too much time.

So, I have relied on tools over the years to help me get the same amount of work done without spending too much time on any one task.  These tools have helped me to speed up my website creation process and have made it so I can also have some time off from work.

I mainly rely on my color picker software to find out what a particular color is if I find a site that has great colors.  The software package is instrumental in saving me time from trying to guess what color I am looking at – instead I know what it is in just a click or two.

I also like to use AMeta which is software that helps me to get my meta tags on my site done properly.  I tried once to do it by hand, but it was just too much work – the software makes it much easier for me.

Though I don’t use elaborate tools to design my websites, they do help me to get the work done and are essential for what I do for a living.

The Full Meal Deal

Posted By Juicy-Lie on June 22, 2008 @ 12:42 pm

For the longest time, I have been looking for a way to start a business without a lot of work.  I guess, I am in the market for a franchise type of business, but I have been unable to find anything like that online.  So, since there doesn’t seem to be anything available, I think that I will create my own type of service that offers the full meal deal for people who wish to start an online business.

So what I have done is lined up a bunch of content writers, a site design firm, a professional logo design service, and a marketing firm.  By putting these pieces together, we will have a killer web "franchise" available to anyone that wants to start out online.  We have also done as much work as possible to help anyone succeed to make their first money online.

Now, all we have to do is come up with the price and launch the site and watch people succeed online.

In Profit in the First Month

Posted By Juicy-Lie on June 13, 2008 @ 10:03 am

Now, I don’t want to brag here, but I just setup a website a couple of weeks ago and it is profitable already.  Sure, it hasn’t made a bunch of money by any means, but it definitely looks like I made some good choices when I set it up.

You see, instead of just rushing out to buy the domain name that I wanted, I shopped around a little bit to find a registrar that had a good price.  I think that this was my first good choice, since I didn’t have a lot of funds to work with anyway.

Secondly, I passed on getting paid hosting.  I just couldn’t find a hosting company that would fit my price range and budget, so instead I found some free MySql hosting that would work perfectly.  The best part is that it didn’t add any costs to my business, so we were operating at the lowest expense level possible.

And it worked.  It looks like we will be profitable after just a couple of days into the second month which makes me happy.
