How to Improve Your Golf Swing by Simplifying it

Posted By Mick Euan Tait on May 28, 2009 @ 3:15 am
by Mick Euan Tait

The game of golf requires control, consistency, and accuracy in striking the ball and driving it towards your intended target. For this to happen, golfers must achieve the perfect golf swing needed in each stage of the game. As the objective of the game is to have fewer strokes at each hole, you will probably need to improve your golf swing.

The Perfect Golf Swing Does Not Exist!

When talking about how to improve your golf swing, it is generally assumed that we are talking about the conventional or traditional swing. Trying to achieve the perfect golf swing with this style is a very difficult task. The majority of PGA Tour pros use the traditional swing; if it was easy to master you wouldn’t see them slicing or hooking their ball into the trees.

What Matters is a Perfect Impact

In fact, many PGA professionals have unusual golf swings. The thing that matters is how they make perfect impact, not how perfect their golf swing looks. If you have taken professional golf lessons or read a golf swing instructional guide, you will have noticed that there are several components that make up the swing; for the weekend golfer it can seam an impossible task to put all these components together for every swing they take.

Some of the components that you have to think about are cocking your wrist near the top of the back-swing and then releasing it, finishing the back-swing with your club parallel to the ground and pointing towards the target line, and the moment of the weight shift. Would it not be better to simplify your golf swing instead?

The Simple Golf Swing

In the past I struggled to dominate the traditional swing, like many golfers. I then found out about a simple golf swing that has fewer components to it and so decided to try it out. Believe me, it was the best decision I have made - my golf game is now more consistent and I have better accuracy and even my distance is improving.

A Solid Foundation

The first step to improve your golf swing is to learn the right grip, correct setup position, and alignment. Without learning these fundamental parts, it doesn’t really matter what type of swing you learn, your results will be terrible.

The Alternative Perfect Golf Swing

I now have what I consider to be a perfect golf swing - by learning how to implement the simple swing. It sure does not look as beautiful as the Tiger Woods golf swing, but it gives me the outcome that I want. It involves basically, a shortened back-swing, less lateral movement by pivoting around the spine, and moving my chest, shoulders, and arms in a coordinated way.

If you want to improve your golf swing then find a swing that actually works for you. This simple swing technique will make your swing repeatable and will result in a more consistent game on the golf course. Even better, this simple golf swing can be learned and put into practice in less than a week - so what are you waiting for!

Best Quality Golf Course With Natural Hazards

The golf course will always remain as the main thing golfers are sensitive to. With 18 holes of teeing grounds, fairways, and greens (with a cup and a pin), but also rough and natural hazards, golf can be quite a challenging sport.

Some golf courses have only 9 holes and there golf is played two times per round while there are golf courses with 27 or 36 holes where players choose their two groups of 9 holes either because of uniqueness or due to maintenance cause sometimes.

Every player has the desire to play in best golf course of his area. Also every golf course may be different because of the choice of hazards in it. Hazards can be natural, man made or water hazards like lakes and rivers.

Touchet Valley, built in 1910 on an old dairy farm, is simply one of the best golf courses around in my opinion. A pasture golf links style course, it is a wonderful treat to play for those who enjoy this style of course.

Many companies manufacture quality golfing accessories now. Cobra, a well-known maker of golf clubs and equipment, has deals with touring professionals and a reputation for high quality. Excellence has always been synonymous with their products and it shows in their performance.

Located in Carlsbad, California, and considered one of the oldest golf companies, Cobra has a great range of quality drivers, irons, utilities, and putters. The former number one golfer in the world, Greg Norman, had a landmark relationship with Cobra Golf.

Another top quality American golf manufacturer is Cleveland Golf, located in Huntington Beach, California. Since the 1940s, Cleveland has been making classic golf clubs and equipment. They have also entered into many sponsorship deals with famous professionals and golf courses.

However there were many changes in the name of the owners but right now it produces full range of golf clubs and is flourishing. Golf courses are designed by special architects and they become celebrities in their own field and they are in great demand too. One thing that is not so good about golf courses is that is not eco-friendly.

Golf’s Growing Popularity Disproves Misconceptions

Posted By Leroy Calstard on March 6, 2009 @ 8:48 am
by Leroy Calstard

There are many people who have misconceptions about golf; surely these people have never played golf. Golf is a game that carries a stereotype that it’s for older adults, it’s slow moving, provides little exercise, and requires a lot of money to enjoy. This is simply not true; in fact, in many cases it’s just the opposite.

Since pro golfers tend to be graceful and slow moving some think that there’s not enough competitive spirit. Golf is a game mixed with competition and patience which may seem like a contradiction. Some enjoy the sport for the completion factor, some for the relaxation factor, and most for a mix of both. Either way, it’s a sport that’s anything but boring.

Some people categorize golf with other less popular sports such as billiards or bowling. Golf has a fan base that is much bigger and more enthusiastic. In fact, if you’ve met a serious golf fan, then you probably know that they are just as enthusiastic (if not more so) than a baseball or football fan. Many would be surprised that televised golf tournaments bring in a lot of viewers, especially the larger tournaments.

There may not be as many young viewers as other more popular sports but that is changing. The increase in popularity of the sport and young pro players such as Tiger Woods has brought young life to the game. Golf groups and tournaments have started to cater to junior golfers since they know that the game can’t survive without young blood.

Golf has less exercise involved but it can be more physical if you choose to walk between swings instead of taking carts. If you play golf regularly then you’re bound to loose a few pounds just from moving around. Being a less physical sport is good since the sport doesn’t require players to be in top physical strength. Therefore, those who want to take up the sport don’t have to hit the gym before stepping on the green.

Golf is a very challenging sport. Not only does it take a lot of practice, training and knowledge about the game but no two golf courses are the same so there’s always a challenge.

The game is open to young and old, male and female. It was, at one time, a sport for those with enough money to afford the club and green fees but things have changed. With the popularity of the sport it has become more affordable and the class distinction is fading away.

The Unneeded Golf Iron

Posted By Guy Morris on @ 1:38 am
by Guy Morris

Most golf enthusiast will agree that the seven iron is the “perfect” golf club. Many will say that they can do without their five and eight iron. Then there is the ever important putter that is hard to replace. The least useful of all clubs, and of any pieces of equipment in your golf bag is the one iron. Lee Trevino, a pro golfer even said that God couldn’t hit a good shot with a one iron.

The one iron is the longest golf iron and therefore the hardest to consistently hit the ball where you want it to go. If for some reason you are drawn to use the one iron then you are probably wrong.

For example, if you’re 200 yards from the green you may be tempted to use the one iron but since it is so hard to control the distance and aim, the three wood would be a much better choice. Depending on your strength you could definitely get the ball on the green and since the three wood is easier to hit with and control, it clearly makes better sense.

So what is the one iron really good for? Well most golfers, even experienced players will tell you that they never use it to play golf. There are many jokes surrounding the one iron and you might get some jokers who will give you alternate uses for this golf club. You could use it to hack tall grass if your ball gets lost and you need to find it. If you come across a wild animal or someone tries to mug you, you could use the long one iron to cause injury.

Some will even tell you stories of destroying their one iron out of frustration. Others will tell you that they use it around the house to retrieve things under the couch or in hard to reach corners. You could even use it as a cane or splint if you get injured on the golf course. If there’s anything that can be sacrificed in your bag it is the one iron. Everything else has a purpose; even the nine iron isn’t totally useless.

Next time someone (usually a novice golf player) asks you what you use the one iron for, make up some creative story and have fun with it. And don’t waste your time practicing your golf swing with the one iron. It’s pointless since you won’t be using it; for golf anyway.

Do you really need a golf travel case?

Many golfers are now resorting to using golf travel cases to store their golf clubs regardless of whether they travel often with them or not. This is becoming an increasingly popular trend for the simple fact that golf travel cases offer better protection for your golf clubs.

You may be living just 10 minutes away from your favorite golf course but a weekly 10-minute vibration of your golf clubs in your car trunk would surely take its toll after a few years. They may be costlier than regular golf bags but it will be well worth the investment as they would make your golf equipment last longer. That is why more and more people are using golf travel cases to store their golf clubs.

Golf travel cases come in a wide variety of colors and designs. Whether you are looking for a classic design or a more edgy style, there are no shortage of choices when it come to personalizing your golf bag. Due to their hard casing and heavy padding, golf travel cases are usually much more durable than regular golf bags.

With the amount of choices available out there, there bound to be some buys that are better than others. Generally, you would want to get your hands on a travel case that has a good balance between function and design.

If you travel often, it would be great to get yourself a lightweight model. If you prefer to travel with your whole golf set, it would be best to get a travel case that can fit your whole travel bag inside for convenience. If you would like to just bring a few of your favorite clubs with you, there are mini golf travel cases that are design to snugly fit three to six clubs for light traveling.

Like for many consumer items, the internet is the best place for you to hunt down the best bargains when it comes to golf travel cases. You can easily browse through the various features of different travel case models and choose the best one. You can also check out golfing forums to find more information and to look out for reviews written by real customers who have purchased and used a certain model.

Playing Golf With The 9-Iron

Posted By Peter Mason on March 4, 2009 @ 8:25 am
by Peter Mason

When to use the 9-Iron

Almost all golfers will get an entire set of golf clubs when they are beginning to golf. They may not know what each iron is for, but they still purchase a complete set of clubs so they have the correct golf iron when they need it. Playing golf is more than just hitting the golf ball with the first club you happen to have.

Many people that have never played golf have the mistaken idea that playing golf is just hitting a ball into a hole and don’t understand the challenge, skill and fun involved in playing golf. Golf irons can easily be compared to baseball bats. Experienced baseball players will use different bats depending on their swing, how far they want the ball to travel or their own individual strength.

Most golfers will use all of their clubs or irons at one time or another, although some are more personal favorites than others are. The 9-iron is one golf club that is not used very often, but it is used in certain circumstances. We all know that the higher the iron size, the further the club will hit the ball-except for the 8 or 9-iron, which is used for shorter distances. The head of the 9-iron is angled high so you will not get as much loft as you would get with a wedge club, such as a chipping wedge, sand wedge or lofting wedge. You also will not want to use the 9-iron if you are further than 140 yards from the green.

One might actually wonder if they even need a 9-iron as part of their golfing set. After all, they will start out putting with a putting wedge. Then they will probably use a 4-iron or 5-iron for elevation and distance. Unless your game consists of many-par holes, you should be pretty close to the greens after your second or third shot (with your 4-iron or 5-iron). From there you may choose to just chip the ball in with one of your wedge clubs (I prefer a chipping wedge). Where the 9-iron comes in handy is if you are around 100 yards or less from the hole and want to try chipping the ball in.

With the right shooting strategy, (placing the ball behind your stance may work) you can chip the ball right up to the hole without having to worry about it flying past the hole. You get the elevation you need without too much distance. Another instance where the 9-iron hole is great is on golf courses that have 3-par holes. With any other iron, your ball is going to travel much farther than you want it too.

However, with the 9-iron, you can make a nice shot with a lot of elevation and, hopefully, get it right next to the hole, possible getting it in the hole. If not, you have your third shot to place the ball in the hole, since your 9-iron has successfully got the ball close. If you find yourself in situations such as this, always keep a 9-iron on hand.

Why Golf Is Better Than Work

Posted By Chad Smithson on @ 8:30 am
by Chad Smithson

It does not matter what type of golf game you have, you and every other golfer in the world will agree that your worst day on the golf course is still cooler that your greatest day at work.

When you are on the golf course your whole outlook is different. You know that when you are teeing off the first hole that you are going to have fun today, and it does not matter if you choke the first hole, or shank the ball the whole day you will still enjoy the time you spend because it is peaceful, and you truly believe that the next shot you hit will look like Tiger Woods.

Now work is a whole other story. When we go to work we place our self in survival mode. We wake up depressed about the workday ahead of us, then we get ready to drive to work, and on the way we get to deal with all the traffic. After surviving the drive we come to the place of our daily torture the curse word we call work.

At work you can be sure that issues are going to be there, and that the workers are the ones who have are set with the task of fixing these problems, or you will be fired and replaced. If we did not have bills and a mortgage not working would be great, but we have to man up to our responsibilities and push through the day.

Another reason everyone hates to go to work is having a jerk for a boss. Now, I know that some people are blessed with wonderful bosses that treat them like gold, but then there are the other bosses that make you want to pull the hair out of your head, and run for the hills. The boss that nothing you do is ever good enough to deserve a compliment, but any mess up should be pointed out at once, and even though they are several pay grades above you, they always complain that they are not making enough money. It is truly enough to drive a person insane.

That is why golf is superior to everyday work. There are no due dates on proposals, no boss streaming in your ear, no worries about climbing the corporate ladder. The only thing you are concerned about when you are playing the game of golf is playing the game of your life. Trying to get the birdie you shot par on last time, and enjoying the peace and quite of Mother Nature.

Everything about golf is great; you get plenty of exercise outdoors where you can enjoy the view. Also, you get to meet new people or just hang out with your golf buddies and have a great time. It is truly a stress release when you smack the crap out of a golf ball. Heck you can even imagine you bosses head as the golf ball, and watch it fly away, and then thinking to yourself what a great shot I just hit.

This is why I have come to the conclusion from my extensive research that golf beats work hands down every day of the week.

The Golden Rules Of Golf

Posted By Golf Buddy on February 28, 2009 @ 12:05 pm
by Golf Buddy

Those of us who play and love the game of golf know there’s nothing like it. You go to the course with friends on a nice and clear day, and no matter what’s going on at home or school, business or personal life, there’s nothing better than a round of golf to get away. Golf as we know is a known as gentleman’s game. A little common courtesy to keep the golf course in good shape can go a long way toward allowing everyone to enjoy the trip to the links. When you go to a golf course, think of the Golden Rule as one of many golf tips and apply it to the course: Do unto others!

Keeping the game and course enjoyable for everyone is common courtesy in golf is a big part of the game that new and old players alike can learn or remember as small tips. My golf playing years extend back to school, where I played for four years on my high school team, including many games against other schools. I can say with conviction that the last thing one needs to affect your outcome negatively in the face of difficult courses and stiff competition is small peeves like balling in a divot, having to take a shot in sand that was forgotten to be raked, or putting through unfixed greens.

Haven’t we all been in the unfortunate position of hitting a good shot right down the middle of the fairway with our Nike golf club or out Cobra golf driver, confident in the superiority of the shot, to just find out that it has landed right in the middle of a big divot in the grass? The chances of a good shot are probably ruined now. Unfortunately, though replacing divots is easy to do, it’s the most neglected action by golf players to keep the course in good condition. It’s frustrating to say in the least, for the ball to land in the divot and mess up your next shot.

Always remember that there are other golfers at the course. I often reflect on taking a divot in the grass after my shot on whether I’d enjoy taking a shot from where I just swung. To say I’d be irritated is an understatement. If the divot is pretty much intact, and which is probably a couple of feet away, if not closer, I pick it up and tap it back in with my foot. You don’t find people doing it, though it’s so simple to do this.

Sand is another important aspect. After taking a shot out of the bunker, I make it a point to rake the sand. It’s bad enough to hit a shot into the bunker; to find the sand all messed up just about takes the cake. Sand when not raked can even make the best golfers at sand shots falter. As usual, common courtesy goes a long way here. Though it’s a bit of a pain to find the rake the sand again, have some sympathy for your fellow golfer who’s had the misfortune of finding his/her ball in the bunker.

Garbage is as much of an irritant. I throw my trash, food wrappers and bottles in dustbins and never think twice about doing the same if I happen to come across trash on the course. This is truly something that can be followed by everyone. You’d agree that it’s not the greatest feeling to have to take a shot on top of a plastic bag or with a soda can next to the ball.

Keeping the green in good shape is another one of my commandments. Avoid misshaping the greens by driving the golf cart on the greens and leaving track indentations. Be careful when you putt from the green in checking whether your ball made a dent on the green on landing. I use a putting tool or repair little dents with my putter. For even without dents and messed up tracks, putting can be tough enough.

These are all things I like to do when out on the course. I always keep in mind that there are other players, and it’s important to be courteous and keep the course in good shape. The Golden Rule and all says to treat other the way you would want to be treated, and I think applying it to the links is a good starting point in keeping the game of golf a gentleman’s game.

Golf Club: Main Equipment Used in the Sport Golf

Posted By Mark Ralston on February 27, 2009 @ 8:16 am
by Mark Ralston

If you are interested to play golf and eventually be known as a pro in this sport, then you must start shopping yourself a golf club now. It is definitely one of the very first things you must secure so you can finally start playing golf.

Basically, a golf club is an equipment used to hit a golf ball. It is made up of a shaft with a grip or a lance and a clubhead. At present, it comes in five classes ” wood, iron, wedge, hybrid and putter. The most popular among the five are the wood, iron, and putter. Woods are the favorite clubs of golfers who are fond of making shots that cover long distances. Irons are perfect clubs for golfers who love making different shots. And finally, putters are special-class clubs for golfers who like rolling the ball into the cup.

Two other classes, wedge and hybrid, are also highly effective though they are not so popular. Wedges are iron clubs that come with a higher loft compared to a 9 iron. They are the favorite clubs of golfers who love making short-distance and high-altitude shots. While hybrids are clubs that share same features with woods and irons. They are clubs well-loved by golfers who are fond of making long-distance shots with incomparable swings.

Of course when you finally shop for golf clubs, you can always go for your own choices. But according to the pros, if you are an amateur, there are some classes that you must avoid. They say you must avoid irons specifically the 3- and 4-irons as many people say they are inefficient to use. You can’t make any hits using these clubs. Instead of having them, you can try hybrids which are believed to be amateur-friendly.

To enjoy a round of golf, you can have a set of golf clubs which should not go beyond more than 14 clubs and more or less should consist of a club of your choice, two fairway woods, a driver, irons from 3 to 9, a putter, a sand wedge, and a pitching wedge.
