My First Job

Posted By Twyla on July 24, 2008 @ 12:54 am

One of the first jobs I ever had was selling cell phones at a kiosk in the mall. It may sound like a no-brainer job, but I actually learned a lot while I was there. I did not know anything about secure gsm and I did not realize that technology moved so quickly.

It seemed like we would get new cell phones in with voice encryption into the store and three months later, they were completely obsolete. I had a new phone every couple of months, just to try and keep up with the changing technology.

I finally got some encryption software that would allow me to install new upgrades on my phone, rather than to keep buying new ones. I actually missed having a new phone every other month, but it was good to have a phone that I got to know very well.

The iPhone is simply Amazing

Posted By Juicy-Lie on February 16, 2008 @ 9:28 pm

I never cease to be amazed at the new devices and gadgets that are always coming out.  While I try to keep up with everything new, it is just not something that is possible.  Lately, I have been following the latest iPhone news on many different sites, and the more I read about it, the more the technology behind it amazes me.

For example, I find that the number of iPhone accessories that were available.  Just like with the iPod accessories, you can find something that will let you do just about anything with your iPhone.  Whether it is charging it in the car, or a set of speakers which will let you listen to music wherever you are, chances are there is an accessory available for whatever task you wish to accomplish.

I have also been following the games that are available for mobile devices and watching their evolution.  From the simple puzzle games such as Sudoku, to the newer, action based shooters, the available iPhone games are a great way to spend those couple of free minutes that you have on the bus, or on the plane.

I am very interested in what new things that are going to come out for the iPhone – I am simply amazed so far.

Free Phone with a Free Gift

Posted By Juicy-Lie on November 17, 2007 @ 1:22 pm

I have been checking the local mobile phone shops for a good deal on a phone.  Now, I am not looking for just any deal, but I want to get rewarded for my purchase - besides getting a free phone.

In fact, I don’t mind paying for the phone if I get something free - say a free cell phone case, bag, or something along those lines.  Sadly, none of the store in town offered anything exciting - the best I could find was a free beach ball - and that doesn’t get me excited.

So I turned my search to the Internet, hoping that somewhere out there, a store was offering something for free.  Now there were quite a few free offers, some good, some bad but I couldn’t take advantage of them all.  The one I did signup for was the mobile phone offer with a free Dell laptop - it fits my student budget perfectly.

Now all I have to do is wait for it to show up.  Seems I get the free laptop after paying my first bill… now only if I had a time machine….

I recently had the chance to try out a Motorizr Z8 from Motorola.  This mobile phone is new offering that is a smart phone with some unique characteristics.  This phone has some good unique features compared to other mobile phones on the market.

  • Unique iTap text input system.  The phone will remember common phrases that you type into it automatically as well as automatically correct any spelling errors that you make.
  • Excellent music player that can start instantly after the phone is turned on (via Instant On technology).

The Bad:

  • They keypad, screen and mirror like back are all magnets for the grease on your hands (be sure to bring a wipe or two).
  • Becomes sluggish when running third party apps.

The Not Ugly:

Though the phone is not perfect, its’ unique shape, look and plentiful features make this phone from Motorola a good buy.
