When you are engaged in freelance, then, you earn your living from freelance projects, regardless of its kind e.g. landscaping or forensics. People who create a real business starting from freelancing will be happy to list all the reasons that justify their form of work as the most suitable. However, from an objective point of view, there are good bits and bad bits about freelancing. Let’s see what there is to praise and criticize in freelance projects.

First of all, independence is the first thing that comes with freelancing. No matter where you work, you’ll always have a boss, and even with freelancing, the client will become a temporary version of a boss too. With freelance projects, there is more self-control over professional activities, and the money always gets into your pocket, for all the work. You are the one to determine how busy the schedule is and how you make progress with your career.

Freelance projects bring more money. Earning more but working less; the hourly rate for a freelancer is usually higher than that of an employee. Then, the variety of the freelance projects makes this kind of business very challenging and exciting. Doable or not, you decide which kind of work deserves your attention. Last but not least, freelance projects also bring flexibility.

A freelancer is not confined to an office. Some work form home, others prefer taking their laptop everywhere they can, while others try to organize a good office setup and minimize the level of distractions that could impair concentration. Depending on the nature of the freelance projects, you should be able to work from everywhere more or less. But let us get a look at the dark aspects of freelancing.

Many people feel too exposed because of the lack of security that freelance projects involve. The fact that you have to find ongoing work and sometimes be on a constant run for a freelance project, could make life a bit more difficult. Then, there is also the challenge of self management with all the bookkeeping, the taxes, the health insurance and contract negotiations.

Finally, days off or vacations are not so good when you think that every day you waste can discontinue the money flow. The problem here is in the huge responsibility because the buck stops with you if you take a break. You earn your bread or you don’t! Competition is higher than aver, there is not always enough work and things could alter for the worst! Who’s talking about a vacation?
