Honoring My Employees

Posted By Twyla on April 22, 2008 @ 3:26 pm

I am an office manager in a very busy office and we are particularly busy during tax season.  Our employees do not get much of a break and they all put in many hours of overtime every March and April, and though I do it as well, I do feel sorry for them.

Once a week, I try to get some office catering to come in and bring lunch to my employees so that they know their hard work is appreciated and they know that they deserve to have a treat every once in a while.

This has gone over very well and I have had lots of positive feedback on the subject.  I value my employees and I know they work hard for me to get the job done and I feel that hard work should always be rewarded.  I think a free lunch every now and then is the least I can do for these dedicated individuals.

My Singing Fantasy

Posted By Twyla on @ 2:20 pm

There are a few musical groups that I absolutely love and I listen to their music every single day.  Some of them are new and popular and some of them are older, but I still like their music just the same.  I am really begin to music and always have been and I really do believe that music is the universal language.

For me, there is nothing better in life than to go to live shows and see your favorite performers on a stage.  When I do this, it feels as though they are singing does to me and there’s no place I’d rather be than in the audience mesmerized on what they’re singing.

When I’m in my bedroom listening to CDs, I sometimes like to close my eyes and pretend that I’m just sitting there in the audience as my favorite performer is on the stage.  It is a great fantasy and it is what I like doing best when I am feeling bored or upset.

Making it Better

I don’t know how many research papers I wrote and received bad grades on before I decided to get help to learn to write one properly. I always thought they were good and was stunned when I didn’t get a good mark on them. I decided that I definitely had to do something about it.

I took a term paper that I thought was really good to my high school English teacher and asked her why I was receiving such poor grades in college. She gave me some great advice and some really good pointers and told me to rewrite it.

I brought back my revamped book reports to her and asked her what she thought of them now. She told me that they were so much better than my original ones. I took her advice to heart the next time I had a writing assignment and enjoyed my very first high mark in college.

Product Sample in the Mail

I work at a construction company and we also operate an excavation company as well.  We have been building houses and doing landscaping for a very long time and we have it down to an art.  Sure, there are still some kinks to work out, but for the most part we have a good system in place, and we follow it smoothly.

Since we do specialize in these areas, from time to time, companies send us free samples of their products to try out.  We have had things such as power tools, lifts, and paint.  It is a great way for our company to try out new things without investing any of our own money to do so.

This weekend, we had the opportunity to try out some new Skid steer tires that a tire supplier sent to us.  They suggested that their tires were more durable and had better traction, so we tried them at a muddy job site.

After a test run, it was clear that we should buy some - it was one of the best runs on muddy ground ever.

They Changed Me

Posted By Twyla on April 19, 2008 @ 4:19 pm

We recently had the great opportunity to have a group of street theatre performers stay with us. My daughter met them while she was traveling in Europe and stayed in touch with them when they all came home. When she found out that they were doing a fair in our city, she extended the invitation to them.

From how she had described them, I was more than a little bit nervous to have them stay in our home, but my trepidation was put to rest shortly after they arrived. They were the nicest group of kids you could ever meet and they were talented beyond all imagination.

I got an invitation to see their performance and it was wonderful. I also got the chance to get to know them on a more personal level. It was interesting to find out where they had come from and what their plans were for the future. Most of all, it was good for me to put my stereotypes in the past and just learn to enjoy people for who they are.

One Step at a Time

When I was looking into making my home more earth friendly, I came up with a lot of good ideas. I decided that I was going to start out small and work my way up. I started my using rags instead of paper towels and by buying organic cleaners, rather than using chemicals.

The next step was to buy organic clothing and bedding and eventually buying organic furniture as well. Every time I made an eco-friendly change, I felt good about myself, but I also knew that there was a lot more that I could do. Thus, I kept on my journey of finding new ways to be earth friendly.

It took a lot of work and a lot if invested time, but I finally just had a solar panel manufacturer at my home to start the conversion of making my home completely solar powered. Once that is finished, I will move onto something else that will do the world some good.

Writing the Easy Way

Posted By Juicy-Lie on @ 8:53 am

Before I attended college I would say that I wrote things the hard way.  By hard, I would say that writing them yourself is not really the most efficient way to do things.  I can remember taking hours and hours to write my admission essay when I could have used that same amount of time to earn money for myself instead.

You see, once I entered college, I learned that you could buy a custom essay online about any subject that you needed.  For example, I was able to purchase many book reports on the many books that we read in English class.

From my experience, the work that you would get for a small cash investment was well worth the time that you saved yourself from writing the essay.  There were so many opportunities that I was able to take advantage of things due to the fact that I didn’t waste all my time doing my own homework.  Sure, you might think my point of view is a little crooked, but writing is outsourced all the time when you are in the workforce.  If you look at it that way, I was actually training to be a better employee.

Renovating My House One Purchase at a Time

Posted By Juicy-Lie on April 17, 2008 @ 10:32 pm

It is nice to see that we are finally making some progress on renovating our home.  It hasn’t been in dire need of some renovations for a number of years now and we were just recently able to find funds to finance our renovations.

The source of the money that we are using to renovate our home is coming from a source that most people have not considered.  The idea came to us while we were looking at a credit card ratings website for a new credit card to add to my wallet.  Specifically, we’re looking for some kind of reward type card that would reward us for spending that we do in terms of points, travel, or cash back.

As it turns out, we ended up finding some home rewards credit cards that reward the purchaser with money to be used towards purchasing home products.  These products included many of the materials and items that we would need to proceed with the renovations on our home.

Though it will take some time to pay for all of the renovations this way, it does not put our financial situation under any kind of duress typically experienced by those who get a loan to pay for the renovations.  I look at it this way: every time I go out spend money I am making a contribution to the home renovations.

Complete Shopping Cart Solution

When I was looking to setup a shop online to sell hockey cards, I had just two criteria: simplicity and reliability.  I was looking for an ecommerce storefront that would be easy enough for me to use once it was setup as well as reliable enough to handle my business operations without any worries.

Now, I looked at many review websites in my quest for the best ecommerce software on the market.  There were definitely a lot of good contenders and I made the point of reading reviews on each one.  Now, I took the best of those reviews and put them into one big pile so that I could compare and eliminate them to find the best.

The one that I ended up selecting offered a complete package including aspdotnetstorefront hosting, which was something that I needed anyway.  Besides, their package definitely was a better deal in terms of the capabilities and ease of use of their product.

Way Too Easy

Posted By Twyla on April 16, 2008 @ 7:10 pm

When I went to college and started the coursework for the five classes that I was taking my first year, I felt a little tinge of déjà vu.  It was as if I had been there before and done it all before and I knew in the year was going to be very little work.

In fact, I found the first year to be very similar to the GCSE coursework that I had done in high school.  I tried not to get too cocky, as I knew this would be a big mistake but I did not think that my first year of college was going to be much of a challenge at all and in fact, I could have just handed in my high school assignments.

I don’t know if all colleges teach the same work as as in A level coursework from high school, but I knew this when I was attending certainly did.  Maybe I just went to a really great high school, but I knew that it would get a lot tougher and was actually looking forward to it by the end of the year.
