Marketing This Blog

Posted By Juicy-Lie on December 29, 2007 @ 1:32 pm

Well, let me ask you this:  If I build a restaurant in the middle of the desert, will anyone come?  The quick answer is no - unless I do some marketing.

The same thing applies to websites - if you don’t market them, no one will ever visit.  Sure, if you pick a name like the name of this site, where someone might just type it in, you could get traffic, but if you don’t, well, no one will come.  So, in an effort to get a little more traffic to this site, I have been reading about link building strategies to better promote the site.

Some of the link building ideas have been common sense such as forum signatures, directory submissions and article submissions.  Now, these have been the staple way of getting links for quite some time.  But I wanted to find some other link building techniques that would give me higher search engine ranking and a higher page rank.

I found out that you could get high value links by commenting on other people’s blogs that have page rank.  Now, you don’t want to contribute something that is useless, rather, you would post a useful comment and get the benefit of a free backlink too - I had never thought of this before.

So, I will be adding blog commenting to my marketing efforts - I will let you all know how it works out in a later blog post.

Read the Fine Print

Posted By Twyla on December 28, 2007 @ 4:43 pm

I came across some online business information that really got me to thinking. We have all heard that there are millions waiting to be made on the net, and for some people it’s true, but you can’t just log on and instantly become rich.

I decided to go in and look at some home business reviews, as this is how most housewives are supposed to be in a Lexus before month’s end, if they sign up to do this. Most of them are scams, but there are a few legitimate ones out there. The legitimate ones do still require quite a bit of effort, as any job would.

It is easy to find business information online, but it is a little bit harder to sort through it and make sense of it all. You need to go beyond reading the testimonials of the people who have made it big.

Always take a look at the business guide when looking into this type of business. It will be more likely to give you the answers as to what exactly your job would entail. Do your homework and you won’t be disappointed.

Minimizing Expenses Associated with Diabetes

Posted By Juicy-Lie on December 27, 2007 @ 4:58 pm

For any of you out there that are diabetic, I am sure that you know how much money you spend each year on medication, supplies, and testing supplies.  In fact, for those of you who don’t know, I have read that most people with Diabetes spend more than $13,000 per year just to keep their disease under control.

In quite a few cases, the prescription coverage offered under Medicare Part D don’t quite cut it - most people will exceed their allowed benefit for the year.  Many people look for Medicare Supplement plans that help ease the financial burden that they are under.

But, there are other ways to keep a little more money in your pocket.  In fact, let me share a little hope with you.  There are many companies online that are happy to offer free diabetes testing supplies - with no stings attached.  Just do yourself a favor, and do a search online - you will be amazed at how many companies are happy to help you out.

Reminiscing Over My First Home

Posted By Twyla on December 26, 2007 @ 4:52 pm

It seems like it has been years since I moved out of my parents house and out on my own.  I can remember the apartments that I lived in since then - some were nice, and some were just nasty.  Sometimes you would just cringe when you were looking for a rental at the time, because at the price I could afford, well, you just couldn’t get anything that was nice.

Once I was on my own two feet, things changed.  I had a steady job, and income, so I decided that it was time for me to purchase my first home.  At the time, I was 23, just out of college, and at the beginning of my career.  Sure, I didn’t have a lot of money, but I wanted to own a place to call my own.

After talking to a mortgage broker, I found that I wasn’t going to be able to afford a regular house.  At the time, the housing prices in the community I was living were sky high, so I needed to look for other housing options.  Condominiums were out of my reach as well, with the prices for them outperforming houses.

So, instead I found some mobile homes for sale and looked at them.  I was expecting the worst, but all the stories I heard about trailers were false - they were actually very nice.  I easily qualified for a manufactured home mortgage with no PMI.

Boy, did I love that trailer.  After five years, I upgraded to a house, but sometimes I miss the good times I had in my mobile home…

Depressing Time of Year

Posted By Twyla on December 25, 2007 @ 7:50 pm

I am a big fan of spring, summer, and fall.  I love being outside in the sun, catching rays and spending as little time inside.  But that all changes with winter - the cold outdoors makes us all spend more time inside.  It is during winter that I suffer from depression.

It has been less than ten years now since I was diagnosed with depression.  Over the years, I have tried many methods such as exercise, outings, special lights, and diets, but have had no luck.  Just in the past few years, I have been using generic Zoloft to help keep me in good spirits.

I had originally tried to order Paxil over the phone, but I didn’t have much luck with that.  I found that after using Paxil for awhile, I would get a little weird.  After a few months, I was taken off of Paxil, and changed to Prozac.

I was able to order Prozac online, which was very convenient for me.  I don’t care to go outside in the cold and having it delivered to my door, I didn’t have to go outside.  But, after a couple of months, we realized that it wasn’t doing anything for me at all.  So, my doctor switched me to Zoloft.

I am still taking Zoloft, and it is a good fit for me.  It keeps me from getting too down on myself, and helps me make it through winter.  I don’t know what I would do without it.

My Birthday Present As A Student

Posted By Twyla on @ 11:57 am

My friend introduced me to the world of casino games on my eighteenth birthday.  He decided that since I was of legal age to gamble, I needed to learn how to play.  I didn’t win much, but we had a really good time and the food was great.  I learned a lot about gaming that day, as before this I really didn’t even play cards.  For the night, I was the student, and he was the teacher.

I must have been a good student and learned well, because the next time we went, I won quite a bit of money.  After this, I started playing some online games.  Some for money and some just for fun.  I have to admit that I have become quite the poker player and am having so much fun.  It is such a nice break when my classes and studying are finished for the day.

The night my buddy first took me to the casino opened up a whole new world for me.  I had only ever played classic games before this and wondered how I made it through high school without playing poker with my friends.  It is almost a weekly ritual for us to get together and play now.

Medication for Mother

Posted By Juicy-Lie on December 23, 2007 @ 1:48 pm

Well, my mother isn’t the spring chicken she used to be.  Now approaching 76, she is getting a bit older (don’t tell her I said that).  I have been helping her out around her house and every month I go out to get her medication.

Thankfully, she has been lucky with her health, and only suffers from Asthma.  She has been taking Ephedrine for Asthma for the past two years, and she has had less problems as a result.  It seems that the doctor was right when he prescribed her Biotek Ephedrine.

She sends me once a month to buy Ephedrine for her at a pharmacy in town.  I have been trying to convince her to buy it online and it could be delivered to her door, but she is leery of doing business online.  I just hope that the medicine continues working its’ magic and she can keep her Asthma under control.

Going Above and Beyond

Posted By Twyla on December 22, 2007 @ 5:22 pm

I was asked if I would be in charge of booking hotel rooms and transportation for an upcoming convention that the directors of the company I work for will be attending. I said that I certainly would and was given a budget to work with. I thought I would go above and beyond and try to save them money by trying to find some Las Vegas hotel discounts.

I knew that I couldn’t put them up at a sleazy motel, but I also knew that if you inquired in the right places, there were many hotel promotions to be found, even at the nicer hotels. I was determined to find them. I knew how I handled this task could reflect on my future career.

I looked online to see if there were any Mirage offer codes, as this was near the convention center, giving them more relaxing time and less travel time. There were discount codes, but when I called to book a room, they had none available for that weekend.

So, I tried to make a reservation at the Circus Circus Las Vegas as I found that the Circus Circus offer codes were a better deal than the Mirage codes.  I was happy to hear that there were rooms available and I booked with them immediately. I went to my boss the next day and shared the news with him. He was so impressed that he told me to book another room for myself because he didn’t know what he would do without me and there would be plenty he would need me for while he was there.

Riding In Style - Limousine Rentals

Posted By Juicy-Lie on @ 3:40 pm

There are so many television shows that show everyone in New York using a cab to get around.  But I have only seen one where the person was using a limousine - the stylish way to travel.  I decided that on my last trip to New York I would utilize a NYC Limo Rental service and ride around in style.

My search began on the Internet looking for something that limos are used for: Prom.  I did a search on "Prom Limousine New York" and came up with many New York Limousine Rental companies.  I checked out a few sites, made a few phone calls, and booked a limo for when I was going to be in New York.

I would have to say that the trip I rented a limousine was the best trip I have had to New York yet.  There is nothing quite like riding around in a stylish car in the big apple - I loved it!

Finding a Great Deal

Posted By Twyla on @ 1:28 am

I am constantly amazed at the great shopping deals that you can find on the Internet these days. I was recently looking for a camouflage handbag, as I wasn’t able to find one in town. I came across a wholesale website and was amazed that wholesale pricing was offered, even if you were to order just one item.

This prompted me into looking for other deals and helping others find great deals as well. I found my boyfriend some awesome deals on hunting wear and he was surprised as well, because he had never thought to look online and was paying a lot more than he needed to.

The director at our local theatre was mentioning that they were looking for some silk rugs and if anybody had any for sale to let him know. I looked online and voila, I found some great rugs at some great prices for him. He was very happy with my find.
