When I go out shopping I always like to do a little research before I go. Getting a feel of what is out there as well as the price at many different stores can give you an edge when negotiating price.
The same habit applies to travel - if you have a fell for the market, you will do better in terms of your purchase price. With that attitude in mind, I started doing some research on our trip to Disney World and Universal Studios.
I found the Disney World forum to be an invaluable resource. Not only did I find the preferred hotels of travelers to the are (it was the Disney World Resort Hotels), but I learned what price most people paid. I was also able to find out what attractions are worth seeing and which ones are a waste of time.
Now that I kind of have a feel regarding where I should stay and what price to pay, I am going to go talk to a travel agent. I will see what price they quote me, the suggestions they make for where I should stay and make my decisions from there. Chances are I will be able to save some money, now that I will know what to ask about - I should be able to get a good deal.
I have been checking the local mobile phone shops for a good deal on a phone. Now, I am not looking for just any deal, but I want to get rewarded for my purchase - besides getting a free phone.
In fact, I don’t mind paying for the phone if I get something free - say a free cell phone case, bag, or something along those lines. Sadly, none of the store in town offered anything exciting - the best I could find was a free beach ball - and that doesn’t get me excited.
So I turned my search to the Internet, hoping that somewhere out there, a store was offering something for free. Now there were quite a few free offers, some good, some bad but I couldn’t take advantage of them all. The one I did signup for was the mobile phone offer with a free Dell laptop - it fits my student budget perfectly.
Now all I have to do is wait for it to show up. Seems I get the free laptop after paying my first bill… now only if I had a time machine….
I look around at parents today and notice one thing - they are all very busy. The result of them being too busy is that the parent involvement kids today have in their lives is at an all time low. Now this can cause a number of problems related to education, social skills, and their self worth.
Now most parents want the best for their children - so do you need some ideas on where you can help out? First off, if you want to help your child have a better life, you have to make a commitment to it - most of us would have the time if we really wanted to do it.
Now that you have made a commitment to being involved with your child, where do you start?
A good starting place would be focusing on parent involvement in education - and this doesn’t just mean school. It could be teaching your child a new skill, attending their music recital, or taking them shopping and explaining how you make your choices. The point is that you take an interest in what they are learning and encourage them - make them feel like what they are doing is worthwhile.
You can start out by helping out at their school. Parent involvement in schools is very important now because of the cut backs of staff in schools. Now, there are more kids than ever per teacher, so the amount of one on one education has decreased. By volunteering at school, it reduces the workload on the teacher and helps them to focus on the students that have problems. Also, by helping out, you would introduce a different teaching style into the classroom.
So parents help you children out - get involved in their lives - they are only going to be kids once.
I attended a speech competition at a local school in our community. Children from the fourth grade to grade twelve were competing through both their presentation and their creative writing skills.
Now, most of these speeches were about common day things: their dog, video games, computers, and different diseases. But there was one speech that stood out, mainly because of its’ originality.
I can remember this boy’s name was Billy and he was in grade ten. He started off with the title of his speech: "How to Write a Eulogy…"
What?
I thought I might have heard him wrong, but that was not the case. He proceeded to tell us about the history of eulogies and their origins. Then he began talking about ways to write a eulogy, and how funeral poems can often add the right beauty to a sad moment.
When he ended his speech, the room was quiet. I stood up and started clapping - and the rest of the room followed. He ended up winning first place in his age category and best of show. All I can say, even though it was weird, it was perhaps the best effort I had ever seen.
Over the years, I have gone to many New Years parties in my home town. Now, as much as I have had some good times, I want to expand my horizons this year. I figure, if I can’t grow, why bother living, right?
So, I picked a random travel book at the library in hopes of finding the place. When I got home, I had an opportunity to take a look at the Koh Samui guide I picked up. It listed all the places one should see at the premier vacation spot in Thailand. You know, before looking at this book, I had no idea that Thailand would be an option for me.
I read up on the hotels in Koh Samui and quite a few of them looked appealing. There were no details regarding the New Years festivities, so I kept looking through the book. I did find some details about a great New Years bash held every year at one of the Chaweng hotels - and I reserved my room right away.
I am now counting down the days till I leave on the plane. Can anyone recommend a cure for fear of needles? I checked into it and I need to get a few shots before I can go.
Now, I have had a lot of furniture in my lifetime - all with varying levels of comfort. Some have been as comfortable as sitting on a rock, while others have been as nice as a warm hug. One thing is certain - not all furniture is made the same.
From my experience, you get what you pay for. Most of the cheaper furniture is hard and horrible if you need to sit for any length of time. That being said, I try to balance the price with the quality.
My favorite brand for comfort is Lazy Boy. Now, once you have sat on any Lazyboy furniture, nothing else seems adequate. If you thought you knew what comfort felt like, go to your nearest furniture store and sit in a Lazyboy recliner. Go do it now.
Alright. Now that you are back, do you see what I mean? Lazy boy brings a new level of comfort that rivals snuggling in your bed. Quality wise, they are second to none - in fact I still have a recliner that is fifteen years old that is a joy to sit on.
Next time you need to get some furniture consider Lazyboy - it is comfort redefined.
I see many of my friends Myspace layouts look the same - most of them use ones that are found online. Thing is, I try not to be a sheep - I like to stand out from the crowd.
I was hoping to find a MySpace layout editor that would allow me to do just that - make my profile be mine and only mine. I did a couple of searches and ended up at a free Myspace layouts site.
At the site they had a layout editor that I could use to make my site look however I wanted. The best part was I could change the layout without having to know any special code. Mostly it was filling in boxes, or a click here and there - nothing I couldn’t handle.
So I have the design roughed out - but I need to find some more graphics - that will be my task for tomorrow. I am sure to be a hit with my design when I am done - I know it.
I have been gaining some wisdom from my activities online - especially in the area of online business. There are many facets of online business - from payment gateways, to scripts, and to the content of the site, but none of this will work unless you have one thing: web hosting.
Now, just like any other business in the world there are quality web hosts and there are poor web hosts. Sometimes you get one or the other, and sometimes a company you have been with for a long time turns into a bad web host.
What I have learned though is that you should see if you can try their service with a temporary free web hosting package - most companies will be happy to give you a trial. This way, you can get an idea if their server is good for your needs or if it is insufficient.
Also, I tend to check out web hosting review websites for opinions from other webmasters. Usually if there is a problem with a particular host - someone will speak about it online. This is similar to asking a friend for their opinion on a particular store - definitely valuable in your decision making.
Lastly, I just want to say: don’t be afraid to change web hosts. From time to time the company that you are with may not meet your standards - don’t be afraid to change if you are not getting what you are paying for. It is your money after all, and you should be happy with the services you are getting - not angry because your site is always down.
In this busy world today, there just never seems to be enough time to do everything. I mean between the busy careers we live, the activities we put our children in, and some attempt to have some time to ourselves, we cannot expect to get everything done. There is one solution to this: outsource what you do not need to do explicitly yourself.
A good example is recently I was looking for a new career and I needed a resume. Now, it has been years since I have written a resume for myself, and I wanted it to sound professional. Instead of trying to flounder through it, I outsourced it to a professional resume writer. This saved me a few hours from writing resumes that I could have wasted.
To be honest, the time I saved by paying someone to write it, was worth more the money I spent to do it. Keep this in mind: you can get as much money as you want, but you only have a limited amount of time. Live for the important moments, outsource the rest.
If you have ever been to the point where your home may become a repossessed property you are not feeling so happy. It is perhaps one of the most disheartening things that could happen to you. Usually when you get to this point, you feel like the world is against you and you have no other options. Or do you?
In fact you do have another option when your property is heading for repossession. There are companies out there that specialize in "saving" people from repossession without you having to be evicted from your own home.
To put it simply, you would sell and rent back your home. You would sell the house to pay off your mortgage (and maybe get some money in your pocket) and then you can rent your home so you do not have to move. This saves you from losing everything when you would have defaulted on the mortgage as well as minimizes the damage to your credit score.
So, if you are facing the repossession of your home - don’t worry. Help is only a phone call away.
